El murcièlago se relaciona con la obscuridad, el misterio, lo desconocido. Con la muerte y los sacrificios ofrecidos a los Dioses. Con el equilibrio y el don de la fertilidad y de la procreaciòn. Existen diferentes variedades de murcièlagos incluyendo a uno que exclusivamente se alimenta del nèctar y polen de las flores. Zotz se identifica con la energìa del jaguar. Los escribas mayas por intermedio de este quiròptero, se lograron identificar con el inframundo, conociendo los designios de los Dioses. Zotz es el emisario de ellos y tiene el poder de la sanaciòn de cualquier enfermedad pero tambièn para cortar el hilo plateado que une al cuerpo y al alma. Su nombre ha sido utilizado para poblaciones y perìodos calendàricos.
